The Heart of Oak project’s aim is to restore and conserve a magnificent carved oak screen, known as the Sandford Orleigh Screen (named after the house it embellished from 1835). The whole community, including young and old, school groups and history groups, will be able to join in with the project through workshops and lectures that focus on, and draw inspiration from, the screen’s history and design, and which will inform all sections of the community about the historical importance of this Tudor screen, and its significance to the town of Newton Abbot.
